Travers Nash's Artworks at a Glance.

Concept Note :

Take a look around you – you’re surrounded by technology. Every aspect of our lives, the way we eat, travel, communicate and entertain ourselves are all determined by constantly “advancing” technology. In our modern world of mass production and consumption these technological objects come pre packaged with a stereotyped usage, leaving little room for creative innovation on a personal level.
These latest works have been heavily influenced by my time in India. The colors, sounds and energy of this country have influenced my attempts to create a more meaningful interaction between viewer and technology  ; a creative relationship that moves beyond pure materialistic consumption.

“My work is ready made object based, where the outcome is dependent on the materials gathered in the planning phase. It plays with the simulated phenomenology the technological realm brings to our world calling into question our very notion of reality. My purpose of the residency is to learn from engaging with new perspectives and gain insights into the role art plays in a very different culture from my own” says Travers.

Travers at Work

His Studio Practice is an exploration of the gap between empirical world of everyday experience and the “hyper- reality”
created by the technological object. He investigates the role for technology within the realms of functions that border on the non- functional that serve to reveal and emphasize our technological addictions as well as explore the possibilities of creating meaningful relationships between the viewer and the technological object that transcends the purely materialistic, allowing for a critical engagement with the technological objects that clutter our lives.

The ideas for work were allowed to grow and transform throughout the time spent in the studio. The work is free from the restraints of the white walled gallery, a work that is able to travel outside the traditional art context.
